They did make it into production as the Copen XPLAY:

You can also get the Robe or the Cero and swap the body panels between them.

Interesting, the wheelbase of the Kopen is only about 2 inches shorter than my Miata (87.8 vs 89.4) so it’s about the same size. But the power to weight ratio is like double! So clearly the Kopen needs a nice K motor swap or an LS if it can fit. I am assuming the retractable hard top hurts the weight quite a bit.
